will HighPoint Controller work?

Featured Replies

Hello!

I recently pruchased several 3TB drives for my drobo and they included these SATA controllers by HighPoint. Anyone out there know if they are safe to use with unRAID? I was considering using them to increase my Motherboards number of SATA ports.

BTW, here's a link to the card that comes with the drives:

My magic 8 ball came up with an indiscriminate blue line...I think it is broken.

In all seriousness, I see no reason why it wouldn't work.  It supports JBOD and claims compatibility with many flavors of Linux.  However, no one can know for sure without just trying it.  Since you already have some laying around, give it a whirl and let us know what happens!  I would try it with 2 TB or small drives first, just to not confound the issue (as unRAID doesn't support 3 TB drives yet).

I'll do that as soon as my drive cages arrive - two days to go. I will try with two 1TB and one 2TB drive and report back.

BTW the 8-ball made me laugh :P

Just to confirm, plugged in the free SATA controller, attached an EARS20 and a 1TB Green to the two ports, it worked right away! Didn't configure anything.
