Initial migration to Unraid

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, I'll be moving to unraid sometime this week, and needed some help in the best way for me to migrate current data over to this new system.

I'm currently storing data on an WDMYCLOUD 4TB NAS drive. The new unraid setup will have 5 new fresh hard drives, and I hope to add this WDMYCLOUD NAS drive to the array as a parity drive once setup.

I'm specifically interested in how I can get the data off the original NAS drive and onto this array. I was hoping for some help with solutions on the best way to do this.

Currently I can only think of setting up the unraid array with the 5 new drives, then using another machine to move the TB's of data from the old WDMYCLOUD drive to the new shares setup on unraid. Once that's done, add that drive to the unraid array, wipe, and assign as a parity drive.

If anyone has a better suggestion on this initial migration, I'd appreciate any input on that.

Thank you.
