[SOLVED] WOL with 5.06b

Featured Replies

Hi

I have 5.06 running. I like to setup WOL to turn the server off at say 1AM and wake up at 5pm.

I tried to look on the forum but got lost. can you ppoint me to the right spot to read and follow.

thanks

There are many posts and a few FAQs/posts in the documentation, but off the top of my head:

Installes the Powerdown package from Package Manager

Via console, type:

echo "/sbin/powersown" | at 01:00

For WOL, download wolcmd (search Google..they have it for Windows and Mac)

Create a cron job on your computer to execute the shell script/batch command created for wolcmd (documentation on website)

Someone can fill in the blanks and cron details for your specific environment.

Thanks,

I am sorry, I did not went into details.

I got the server setup to go into S3 ( I think). it power down to 1W

I also got it to wake up via wolcmd

I my server is commisioned so I test it with array stopped.

So far it power down and wake up from array stopped.

ok so next step is

step 1: install powerdown package. I believe I can do that from unmenu.

step 2: echo "sbin/powersown" | at 01:00    word for word right not "powerdown" but "powersown"

OK so the step 2 above is from array started right?.

Thanks

lol, no it is "powderdown"...sorry! I was typing on my phone on the train.  Just list the /sbin/ directory and you should see it there.

I haven't figured out how to make my server go to sleep--only put to drives to sleep after an hour of inactivity, and shut the server down at a certain time, and wake it up with wolcmd by executing a script i have manually.

But definitely looking for a way to put it to sleep without shutting it down completely, and waking it when a device needs something on the disk.
