May 4, 201115 yr Hi Guys, Wondering if i could get your input on my rebuild, I recently made a post on folder caching eing extra slow, I later discovered that one of my drives failed so I proceded to assign another drive as the replacement and started my journey of a rebuild. The rebuild is really slow around 1,881 KB/sec - 5,000 KB/sec and the system appears to be very sluggish in response time and I'm wondering what's causing this. I'm attaching the log file for review: www.sobon.ca/syslog.txt Can someone shed a light as to why it's being extra slow?
May 4, 201115 yr Your system specs will help as well. Here's what I see in your syslog: All your drives are running in IDE mode. You need to switch to AHCI (SATA) mode in your BIOS. This will help with some performance issues, but not those as extreme as what you are seeing. There must be more involved here. (sdj) WDC_WD20EARS-00MVWB0_WD-WMAZA3820976 is having a ton of errors. Disk 7 is being rebuilt. Is the WD EARS drive the one you are rebuilding disk 7 onto? Also, I noticed that your Seagate LP drives are running the old firmware (CC34). Once you get this current problem sorted out, you should upgrade all of them to CC34. The old firmware will cause a drive to die prematurely. I saw one die after just a couple of months of regular use. Again, don't mess with them yet until you've got the current speed issue worked out.
