May 5, 201115 yr I was thinking about using a standard 880GMA but seen there were some problems with the chipset and such, I'll also be running two SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8. I've been looking at super micro boards as I've read a couple places that unraid runs smoother and will overall just be better with a server motherboard, is that true? I was looking at these motherboards, http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182161&cm_re=supermicro-_-13-182-161-_-Product'>http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182161&cm_re=supermicro-_-13-182-161-_-Product http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182161 So if you can tell me what I should do that would be great.
May 5, 201115 yr Both links lead to the same board? Anyway, the C2SEA is a fine board and a good reliable choice. It will support both SASLP cards. The short answer to your question is yes, unRAID will run more reliably on a server board such as those made by Supermicro simply because the boards themselves are designed for 24/7 operation and have fewer 'features' that can mess with unRAID's operation. Many of the compatibility issues between unRAID and motherboards are caused by motherboard manufacturers packing often useless features into the board (HPA is a glaring example of this). Server boards tend to be more lean. However, there are plenty of budget boards that work well also. For example, I've yet to see a single Biostar board that wasn't completely compatible with unRAID, though Biostar boards are considered to be consumer grade. If you can afford a Supermicro board, then they are always a good choice, especially when you are using other Supermicro hardware like the SASLP cards.
