win 10 sound problems and freezing

Featured Replies

hardware: i7-4930k, x79 sabertooth mobo, gtx 1080, soundblaster z pcie, 2x generic usb pcie cards.

i am having some trouble with my win10 vms.  for awhile i had everything working except if i shut down the win10 vm the whole unraid system would crash and i would have to hard reset.  general suggestions pointed to the vm not releasing passed through usb devices.  i ended up using 2 generic usb pcie cards.  one is connected to the usb ports on the front of the case and the other has my mouse, keyboard, usb camera and gaming controller plugged in.  i now pass my sound card, gpu and both pcie usb cards directly through to the vm.

i now can shutdown vms without crashing.  HOWEVER, now everytime i start a win10 vm i lose sound and i have to install the audio driver for the sound card.  this sometimes works and sometimes doesnt.  in addition more often than not the vm will freeze and i will have to force stop it from another device which usually works.  i have an ubuntu vm that works mostly perfect.

any help would be appreciated.  thank you!
