Seagate 1tb?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I was just wondering what you think about this drive , http://www.amazon.co.uk/SEAGATE-ST31000524AS-Barracuda-7200-12-Internal/dp/B004R01RUQ/ref=sr_1_16?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1305053989&sr=1-16 and http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/desktops/barracuda_hard_drives/

Sorry if there have already been topics about this, I had a check.

Its a Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS , 7200rpm , 32mb cache. Would these drives be good for an unRAID server? How would they compare to WD10EARS, performance and reliability wise?

Also note the price, £28 from the other sellers....good deal?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Chris

I don't have any personal experience with these drives, but they should work just fine for unRAID.  The WD10EARS drive will be a bit slower, but it will also use less power and produce less heat.  Both drives will be plenty fast enough for streaming media.  Personally I prefer the WD EARS drives for their power savings.

As for price, I think they are a bit steep considering that you can get a 2 TB drive for only about $20 - 30 more (at least in the US you can).  Unless I saw a 1 or 1.5 TB drive on a ridiculous sale, I personally wouldn't buy a drive smaller than 2 TB these days.
