GPU transcoding

Featured Replies

I put a rtx 3060 in my server but the local network doesn't use it. If I connect to Plex on my phone from remote access it uses the GPU. Any idea why it doesn't get used on local?

Does local need transcoding?  Remote defaults to transcode typically.  Have you tried forcing transcoding locally?

Ok, I didn't know that. I thought I could offload all the streams to the GPU. I can do hardware transcode locally but it uses the CPU instead of the GPU.

In my experience with plex, only if the client needs a lower quality will transcoding happen.  If it doesn't then it just uses direct stream.  As for using CPU instead of GPU I am not sure about.  If you check Plex dashboard when playing the local transcode what does the dashboard say.  It should say transcode for video and audio and whether it is using cpu or gpu

Ya, it says it's using hardware but I assumed it would use the GPU. But the GPU statistics on my dashboard doesn't show any processes. It only shows processes on remote streams.
