Anyone successfully using QNAP external RAID expansion (on QNAP hardware)?

I have a TS870-Pro (upgraded) which I'm fairly well convinced I'm going to put Unraid on (QNAP have ditched this model for software updates now).  What I'd like to know is if anyone has used one of the QNAP external expansion units with Unraid?

    I am looking to expand my HP MicroServer Gen 8 with the QNAP TL-D800S
    (8bay expansion via SAS Card (QXP-800eS-A1164 Asmedia ASM1164)


    But still in doubt, because the software is for Ubuntu, so I might not be able to connect it?
