May 31, 201115 yr I want to run Time Machine on a user share that is restricted to a single disk, so that I don't have to dedicate an entire disk to Time Machine. I've created a TimeMachine user share, put disk2 in "included disks", and am exporting it as (only) AFP (TimeMachine). I can mount the volume over AFP, but it will not appear in the list of available disks in Time Machine preferences. I previously exported the whole disk as AFP (TimeMachine) and that DID appear in the list of available disks in Time Machine preferences. I was able to start backing up to the disk share. If I use a disk share I must exclude that disk from user shares, or shares will automatically be created for a bunch of apple files that it creates in the root of the disk. What is the trick to get OSX to see the TimeMachine user share the same as it sees the disk shares, and allow me to use it for Time Machine? Cheers.
May 31, 201115 yr Author I think I figured it out. You need to use "secure" security level and connect with a username/password.
