[6.10.3] - files have disappeared when viewed in share but are still present when viewing drives - RESOLVED!!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I'm new to Unraid so please bear with me.

My server has 60TB of storage. I've been copying my media to it and have roughly 40TB of data stored so far. It's all working well and the root share was accessible from all the machines on my LAN. Then I added a 6th and 7th drive. Precleared them then formatted. This is where I made my mistake. I accidentally copied a documentary movie to the array while the new drives were formatting. Now, even though all my array data is still there the only item showing in my root share is the documentary file I copied across.

I tried removing the two new drives, creating a new config, and running parity check to (hopefully) recreate the share directory structure but all I'm still seeing is the single documentary movie. I can navigate all the existing data by viewing each drive individually and it's all there, but it doesn't appear in my share. All the files still play in Plex so it appears to be something explicitly related to Windows.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

EDIT: It looks like xfs_repair may be the fix I need. The array is parity checking right now but when it's done I'll go through the xfs_repair process and report back. Thanks!

EDIT 2: No joy. Ran xfs_repair on all my drives this morning in maintenance mode. They all came through with flying colors but the share on Windows still shows only one file available.

Does anyone have any other ideas? I'd hate to have to start copying data off the share and rebuilding the entire array from scratch, especially since the data is quite visible from a drive viewing.

EDIT: RESOLVED!!!

I found the problem. My path to my documentaries is /Media/Documentaries. When I accidentally copied the movie file to the array while UnRaid was formatting a new drive I was using a Windows machine. The default SMB action for Windows is to ignore case. Somehow the Windows box created an entirely new path on the UnRaid server named /media/Documentaries. This completely overrode the visibility of my original root share to Windows, even though the new share didn't appear in the Shares tab on UnRaid. Whenever I mounted the share UnRaid preferentially offered the new lower case share over the older capitalized one.

When I deleted the new lower case /media/ and restarted the array my old capitalized share suddenly reappeared.
