Mac Connection Freezing

Featured Replies

Hi! I'm running Unraid 6.11.5 and having an issue with SMB connections locking up specifically on Mac computers. It appears that the server stops responding, and freezes finder in the process. Things seem to work fine on the Windows side, and I've replicated this on a few Macs including a brand new Mac studio with a relatively clean OS.

I've experimented with the Mac Operability settings, and the simultaneous connection setting did help, but it ultimately crashes just not as soon. While the server is unresponsive I can access the web GUI fine and stats show it's mostly idling.

I work with large video files, and usually copying over a few gigs, or exploring large directories seems to trigger.

I've also got a ticket open with Apple, but so far their senior advisor couldn't find any active reports on this in the wild, and suspect its something compatibility wise on host side.

Appreciate any insights or things to try! If there's anything I can look for in logs, happy to post.

thx!

I just started having this issue also with my Unraid server on my Mac. @ryan.wdid you ever find a solution?

It's frustrating because force quiting Finder quits it, but Finder wont come back up, it just keeps crashing and I have to log off and back on just to get Finder.

That is the same troubles, I did get 90% of it resolved. The biggest was disabling any RealTek network interfaces- they don't play nice with Unraid I was told.

The other one is more of a work around- rather than Finder, I'm using the Owl Files app and it is much faster and more stable.

I don't know what it is, but there's still some thing that just isn't playing nice with finder. I've had many conversations with senior support advisors at Apple, many of them don't even know what SMB is 🤦‍♂️
