Problem upgrading to 4.2.1

Featured Replies

OK, call me Mr. Stability - I have been running 4.0 for quite some time with zero difficulties but finally decided that 4.2 had gone through enough user testing for me to try.

I attempted to upgrade to 4.2.1, followed all of the instructions, but no-go.  Changed back to 4.0 and all is well again.  What did I do wrong?

Steps followed:

* Downloaded 4.2.1 and unzipped

* Copied the following from the 4.2.1 folder to the root folder of my flash drive (via an exported share which is set to read/write)

    * bzroot

    * bzimage

    * memtest

    * syslinux.cfg

    * menu.c32

* Stopped the array

* Rebooted

* Waited 15-20 minutes (10X what it normally takes to boot), no love, couldn't get via "tower" and couldn't telnet

* Powered down manually and started up

* Waited 15-20 minutes, still no love

* Pulled the flash key out and put it in my PC, checked all the files, looked at file sizes and time stamps - the new files definitely got copied

* Downloaded 4.0 (I unwisely didn't save the old files), moved three files over (all but menu.c32 and memtest which were not in the 4.0 download), got love again including no need for a parity check

???????

I don't have a videocard hooked up right now so I can't see what may have been displayed during boot.  I have a cheapie card that I can install tomorrow and will grab a monitor as well.
