server not posting with PCIe SATA controller card present

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My post is not directly related to Unraid, but rather concerns a hardware issue. Still hoping to get some help or suggestions from the experts here 🙂

So, I bought a new motherboard (Asrock X570S PG Riptide) because I wanted a motherboard with three PCIe x16 slots. Two are meant for graphics cards, the third is to be used by a Silverstone SST-ECS06 s-ata controller. Now my problem is with the latter:

For some reason the system simply won't post with the Silverstone present in the system. I have tried all kinds of different configurations, swapping my graphics card (only one for now) and the SIlverstone around the three available PCIe x16 slots, but it seems that the only variable that matters is whether the Silverstone is present in the system. With it, it simply won't post.
I have updated the BIOS to the latest version but that made no difference for this issue. There is one setting in the BIOS that I could find that is directly related to the PCIe slots. It has the option to toggle between automatic and 1x8 +2x4. I tried both options.

For now I went back to my Asus B550 board, with the Silverstone, and everything is working fine again...

I would really appreciate some suggestions about what the reason for the Asrock not posting might be.

Thanks in advance!

Danny
