tarjalan Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I am trying out Unraid to see how I get on. I have a zacate system and at the moment just one hard disc in it. I thought I would try the latest 5.0 beta 12 build as that seems to offer the best hope with the realtek 8111e nic. Managed to get along with the tutorial until the Unmenu install. When I first installed Unmenu I included the line echo "/boot......../config/go" which I interpreted to mean would automatically install Umenu on a reboot or restart (I may be wrong). I rebooted and tried //tower: 8080 and firefox wouldn't connect to port 8080 - "can't find file at //tower: 8080" (tried other combinations (wrong syntax maybe) and the ip address). Reran the Unmenu installation script and stopped at the ./uu line. This then allowed access on port 8080 and I got the Unmenu start page. However, the hard disc was in (what sounded like) a continuous read. I thought that, maybe, I had 2 instances of Unmenu running and eventually typed halt and rebooted the system. Advice required Tried again without reinstalling and couldn't connect on port 8080. Tried running the unmenu install script again and now get "unmenu.awk already exists in /boot/unmenu use "-u" option to update the existing installation" I tried reinstalling with "-u" as a parameter and get "mkdir: invalid option -- 'u'". Rebooted and tried again using just "./uu" from the "/boot/unmenu" prompt but can't connect. Any help greatly appreciated. In the meantime, I will play around and see if I can fix it myself. At the end of the day I can start over by remaking the usb stick and trying again but I would like to try and solve the problem without doing that. Thankyou in advance.
Joe L. Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 There is no need to completely reformat the flash drive. Post a copy of the contents of the config/go script. You probably edited it incorrectly. If you really want to delete unMENU completely, type cd killall awk rm -rf /boot/unmenu The proper URL is //tower:8080 (notice, no space after the colon) You cannot "initially" install unmenu as you tried from the config/go script. You can invoke it on reboot once it is installed. Which tutorial did you follow? It does not sound like one I wrote. The install steps are shown here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5568.0 or here: http://code.google.com/p/unraid-unmenu/
tarjalan Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 Thanks for your reply. I made a cup of tea, thought about it and have now solved it. I was indeed running two instances. Unmenu had started but I didn't realise it and started a second instance - I think they were fighting. I can now connect on port 8080 and the disc rereading has stopped. I rebooted and just connected with firefox, without using terminal to make any changes, and it works. Interestingly I must put "http://tower:8080" in the browser or I get sent to a webpage I don't want - maybe a Firefox setting needs adjusting. I think I was trying to be too smart!!!
Joe L. Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 glad it is working. Enjoy your tea, and unMENU too.
tarjalan Posted September 16, 2011 Author Posted September 16, 2011 No, it wasn't your tutorial - it was the one that links from the wiki. I shall use yours from now. Any idea what about:config setting in Firefox stops the need for "http:" to prevent getting to a website. Thanks again.
