Issues port forwarding with Xfinity's xFi Modem/Router

Featured Replies

I know this probably isn't an issue with unraid but before I even try to contact Xfinity support I'd rather see if some knowledgeable folks here would be able to help me figure this out. I've done most of this stuff before but started with a windows server, then ubuntu, and now unraid. This is my first time doing anything "real" with VMs.

So far my unraid experience has been almost flawless. I have a half dozen dockers humming along doing their thing and decided to dabble into the VM side to get a game server running. At first I was port forwarding to my unraid servers IP but upon further research that is not the correct way and I need to port forward to my VMs IP. I have my network settings set to bridge, my VM has its own IP from the router as far as I can tell. No issues, with internet connectivity. My Xfinity xFi router (model CGM4331COM) didn't automatically pick up my VM as a connected device on the router login so I manually added it with the hostname, mac address, and "reserved ip" that it had in ipconfig. Unfortunately this version of the modem/router relies on the xFi app to port forward to devices. This hasn't been an issue with my actual unraid server, it shows up in the list just fine. However my VM does not show up in the apps list of available devices. Doing a bit of research it seems like if I can't get my VM to show up in the app as a "connected device" then I won't be able to port forward to it. I tried disabling IPv6 in the adapter settings as that was one recommended solution by Xfinity in the app.

Changing network source to virbr0 also did not seem to work like the FAQ suggests trying. Also the screenshots are dead links so it's a little hard to be 100% sure I'm doing what it suggests.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can get my VM to show up automatically as a connected device so I don't have to manually add it? I suspect that would have something to do with the issue I'm having. Upgrading my modem/router is in my future plans but it would be nice to be able to get something up and running now.

If anyone wants more info, feel free to ask away. Any help is very much appreciated.
