Considering Upgrading my setup - Advice?

Featured Replies

I think Ive been running the below for about 5 years now.  I have had a few small issues, nothing catastrophic.  Motherboard is throwing a  0200: Failure Fixed Disk.  System also randomly crashes on occasion (rarely, every couple of months for the last few years.  I think I have tied it to times when it was under heavy load and potentially overheating).

Primary use is a Media server (Plex), storage, VPN.  I do have multiple plex streams running and transcoding, some outside of my network.  I notice issues/buffering whenever something is trying to play 10-bit x265 sources.

Current System -

GIGABYTE GA-7TESM, Version 00000001
Phoenix Technologies LTD, Version F9

2x Intel® Xeon® CPU X5650 @ 2.67GHz

12 GB ECC DDR3

Potential Upgrade -

Desktop Motherboard, LGA 2011-3 Dual Socket Desktop Mainboard for Intel x99 Chipset, Support 8 DDR4 DIMM(Single Memory 16G), 6 SATA3.0 Port and 2 NVME M.2 Port (Here)

2x Intel Xeon E5-2697A v4 (Here)

4x8GB RAM DDR4 2400 (Here)

Prices seem pretty good.  CPU looks to be a major upgrade, as is the RAM.  Biggest question is the motherboard.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
