USB flash failure and stopped array

Featured Replies

Today happened something interesting. I noticed that HomeAssistant stopped working so I went to check unRAID (I run HomeAssistant as a VM). Then I saw that array is stopped, HA VM and 16 very important docker containers killed (vaultvarden, nextcloud, influxdb, postgresql etc).

The reason? USB flash died, causing unRAID to panic because it can't read the license file. So, the only logical thing to do is to kill everything because buying license I don't need to support unRAID two months ago and running the server for that period is not enough to keep the array up.

I replaced the USB and started thinking: I travel a lot. I also self host vaultvarden, HA, Nextcloud and I use them outside. What if this happened while I am on the road? I would be screwed without access to my data. I could not do anything until I return home. And all of this because you couldn't verify license on the server running for two months straight?

Do you find this acceptable? I don't. Can you fix it? I hope so because unRAID is not reliable at all! I can't see any reason for it to kill my array because failed USB drive. And how I know that the array is killed and not shut down gracefully? The parity check started because the array is not stopped properly.

So this is totally unacceptable. How I can say to anyone that unRAID is reliable? How I can trust it any longer?

I hope that you plan to fix this. Otherwise, there is really no reason to buy a subscription you plan to introduce.

Thank you for your time.
