citrus Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Hi all, my 1st post here, and I'm sorry to say I'm asking for help. I have tried to set up an old pentium 3 box as an unraid server, but the boot fails at the "Unpacking initranfs..." message - it just sits there forever, presumably frozen. Is there anything I can do about this, any hints as to what could be causing it, or suggestions on what to check? I ran a memtest with no problems detected. I tried a 2nd thumb drive. I tried 4.5.4 as well as the latest 5.0 beta 13. Any ideas? TIA.

Older bios did not know how to address flash drives over 1Gig. Update the BIOS, it might have fixes. Joe L.
citrus Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 I gave up in the end and swapped the motherboard & cpu & memory. The new one works fine.
