Reactivate old unraid server?

Featured Replies

I upgraded my unRAID server from 4.5 to 4.7 and can no longer access the old drives.  When I view the router setup from my ISP, I see the old IP address (192.168.1.3) is inactive and a new address (192.168.1.6) is now active and remote access is enabled.  The device-name for the old address is UNRAID_Server and the device-name for the new address is Tower.  On the 4.5 install I changed the default server name from Tower to UNRAID_Server.

I need to get reconnected to UNRAID_Server where my files are located.  I no longer have the boot flash drive for the 4.5 version.  I stupidly formatted the flash drive and overlayed the 4.7 version.  I have no backup for the config files.

Can anybody help?

Do not be surprised if you find all your disks show up as unformatted.  DO NOT FORMAT THEM!!!!!!!!!!!

The 4.7 version of unRAID has a bug where it will reset the MBR partitioning to point to the wrong disk sectors.  That will cause the mount to fail and the disks to appear to be unformatted and have no file-system.

This has happened several times to other unRAID owners.  It is easy to fix, but not if you panic.

First, you'll need to be able to get to the management console, once you get there, you can proceed to see if all the disks are properly assigned.  If you reformatted the flash drive and did not save a copy of the config files, you have a lot to re-enter.  I hope you remember which drive was the parity drive.

If you do not remember, DO NOT ASSIGN ANY PARITY drive.  Seek guidance.

"UNRAID_Server" no longer exists.

You will first have to contact LimeTech and get a replacement key file for the flash drive so you can build an array that has more than 2 data disks. You will have to get the GUID from the flash drive (shown on the unRAID management page) and then LimeTech should be able to verify it is a registered flash drive and re-issue the key file.

Once you have the key file, you will have to assign all the drives again. If you have no idea which drive is which then just assign them all as data drives. When you start the array only 1 drive should be unformatted. If true, then you have found the parity drive so stop the array and fix the parity drive and any other drivee assignments you want to change. If not true, then you have other issues that you need to come back and get help with.

Hint - the command initconfig has to be typed to reset the array any time you change disk assignments.

I didn't know you need new key if you change the name of the server.

I though the key was linked to Flash GUI...

You do not need a new .key file unless you change flash drives.

My server array consists of only 2 data disks (free download).  Where do I find the unRAID management page and how do I contact  LimeTech for assistance?

The current situation is that I have downloaded and installed the 4.7 software from LimeWire.  The install ran to end and gives me the LOGIN prompt.  When I enter the //Tower or //192.168.1.4 URL from Windows Explorer, Windows Security prompts me for a userid and P/W.

The window states:  "The server tower at 'unRAID SMU' requires a username and password.  My old server tower name was UNRAID_Server and the new install is still Tower.  Where did unRAID SMU come from?

The stock unRAID setup has no password. You likely are having issues with that Windows machine or you didn't format and setup the flash like you have stated, leaving old login/password info on it.

As for the key comments - Keeping the same flash drive that is already registered means nothing if you format it and wipe off the key file....

Thanks Lionel.  I went back to square 1 and reformatted the flash disk from a different USB port and now have the Tower screen back.  Now need to find my old drives.  May need help with that, but I'll see how it goes.  Always feels good to make some progress.
