Can i directly download from main pc onto one my shares or will this mess up uraid i.e download to main pc then transfer or is it much easier just to set-up sabnzbd/coach/sick on unraid unmenu. I want to do it but all tuts sounds really complex for first time unraider Just upgraded to pro and want fill out missing boxsets shows etc
January 26, 201214 yr Yes Some have servers with fast processors and loads of ram so the owners drop some addons. Others have low power CPUs and little ram so their server just serves files. I run a app server and manually fill the drives. I like the separation of the app and file server. It makes for simplicity maintaining unRaid.
January 26, 201214 yr Author well i have AMD Sempron 145 2.8GHz 4gb ddr3 ram 8gb usb stick sata 3 6gb hard drives I'm pretty sure overkill for unraid but to be honest its all spares except motherboard and cpu (dirt cheap) and hard drives. So to clarify i can setup my htpc to download to unraid directly?
January 26, 201214 yr I used to have SABnzbd download from my iMac to unRAID. And on occasion I have Vuse to the same. I haven't seen any issues in doing so.
January 26, 201214 yr Yes, you can download to unRAID directly. If you download to a data disk, then both the data and parity disks will need to spin at all times. This will use more power, but your data will be protected at all times. If you download to a cache disk, then only the cache disk will need to spin (saving power), but the downloads will be unprotected until 3:40 AM each night when they are moved into the protected array.

So to clarify i can setup my htpc to download to unraid directly? You can with that hardware just the par check and unrar may slow things down. It slows my core 2 duo with 4Gb ram. Its probably wise to pause Sab while watching video. Maybe someone has a script that will pause Sab while the player is online just I haven't seen it.
