[SOLVED] disabled drive, what's the reason? (unRAID 4.7)

Featured Replies

Hello,

Recently I got a red dot next to a hard disk of mine.  When I look at the drive in the myMain menu I see the following error:

DSBL - Disabled , old disk still present

I'm using unRAID 4.7 Pro, in SMART view I don't see any special errors, but there is a high value attribute present:

udma_crc_error_count=11018

I can't even do a parity check (option is not available) anymore, is my array unprotected now ?  What if a drive goes dead?

The reason for a drive to be disabled is ALWAYS the same.  A "Write" to it failed.

Once disabled, it is "simulated" by reads and writes from parity and all the other data disks in the array.  (You can still read and write to it, but the writes go only to parity.)

You are currently being "protected" against your single disk failure.  You would lose data if a second disk were to fail now.  If a second drive dies now, you will lose data on both the failed drives.

The write failure to the drive could be because the drive failed, or, just as likely, a cable to the drive is loose.

Thanks Joe,

I should've read the wiki better... I did replace the cable because the udma_crc_error_count might indicate a defect in the cable.  After replacing the cable I did a rebuild and my disk is back green now...

Hopefully it stays this way.
