[SOLVED] Network connection is up and down constantly

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I just got everything up and going today and my server connection just seems to go up and down constantly.  There's no rhyme or reason to it.  I do not believe it is a network issue.  I've tried this on two different switches and it does the same thing on both.  I'm using an ECS 945GCT-M3 motherboard, which has a Realtec RTL8100C integrated.  I'm running 5.0 Beta 14.  I've attached my SysLog.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Brandon

FWIW, I tried 4.7 and yet another switch and it is still doing the same thing.  Is this something that has ever been seen before?

Also, the connection light on the card stays solid.

I've got a low profile card here at home (this is in a Supermicro 2U case) I'm going to take and try tomorrow or Monday.  I tried an older NIC tonight and it didn't recognize it.  I may order a Trendnet gigabit low profile card, too.

I'll try searching through the forums and see if I can find if anyone else has seen this before.

Any help is much appreciated.

Does the server show any messages on the main console?

Likely a network switch/cable/card issue (as it was for me when a similar thing happend).

If your going to get a new card, stay away from Trendnet, or really anything other than Intel!  I found that I get 20MB/s more when I switch to Intel network cards from RTL based ones.  They really are not much more expensive and the reliability and increased speed is well worth it (IMHO).

Thanks for the reply.  I've ruled all of those out except for the NIC, which was my main suspicion anyway.

I'll grab an Intel NIC.

Thanks for the reply!

I should clarify. That speed increase was mostly seen when writing to a cache drive.

I used a spare NIC I had at home and it is now working fine.
