Unraid 5 upgrade with new parity drive?

Featured Replies

I'm replacing my parity drive and thought this might be a good time to upgrade to UnRaid 5.  Thoughts?

I assume its easier/safer for me to do a clean install (I have a second pro key/usb drive) that I have v5 b12a on (I have LSI controller so will likely start with this beta version).  I can then enable the plugins that I use one at a time (I'm good with linux so don't mind reconfiguring everything as I go).

Is this a good plan, or would it be better to take my current 4.7 upgrade to 5 (as per the wiki upgrade page http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=UnRAID_Server_Version_5.0-beta_Release_Notes) with my current parity drive, then once I'm sure 5 is working, switch to my new parity drive and rebuild it...?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Switching between final and beta is easy but if you have a extra key I would get a clean 4.7 (no add on) running on the extra key and follow upgrade.

If you run into issues going backwards is just a matter or swapping USB drive. I would also recommend running the beta for a couple of months before adding plugins. It's hard to do but you want to be sure your array is stable.

While plenty dont run into problems I was not so lucky. The parity drive would red ball after a parity check. It seems my drive ran into timing issues with the beta. Since returning to 4.7 I have not had one problem.

Don't let my story put you off. Just be careful.
