Plex won't stream media after running ~24hrs

Featured Replies

Plex Media Server 9.5.2 (Tofurky Edition) is running on unRAID 5.14b and works perfectly for about 24 hours, then my clients will start giving "unable to play" and "cannot connect" errors.  I am still able to view my libraries on all clients and they all say they still are connected to the server, they just won't play any content.  Twice I have been in the middle of a movie and had the stream drop and been unable to resume playback.  Going to the unRAID box and using top I can see that Plex Media Server is still running and I haven't had any problems with the memory leak.  Stoping and restarting Plex fixes the issue, but I'd like to figure out what the problem is and fix it.  I have plex installed on my array right now because I don't have a cache drive.  This is one thing I thought may be causing the problem.  Attached are logs of my server, one is trying to play a movie with it not working, the other is trying to play the same movie after a restart and it works.

Any ideas on how to trouble shoot this?

I have something similar. Normally the not playing scenario even when you can see the library is because the PMS process has died, no option but to restart it. Say you had left your Plex client on the movies section, click to carry on from a movie you was watching but nothing happens, no errors etc. But, if you esc back up to the top level menu everything is blank.

Are you running sabnzbd/sickbeard? I've noticed that pretty much every time sabnzbd downloads something the pms process will stop. I've never bothered to trace it in the logs though.

BTW, my install is running on a cache drive so it isn't that.

This is the key:

For some reason the transcoder is acting up. You can try (with the appropriate LD_LIBRARY_PATH)

$ "/usr/local/plex/Resources/Plex Transcoder" transcode http://127.0.0.1:32400/library/parts/1/file.mkv /mnt/disk2/plex/temp/plex-transcode-6EA6EEAC-EF08-48DE-8DA3-7BF84B7E9A67-c27518632ab0673878aedd96dfb4862e402fb2cf/media 8 3 0 2 nil 0 yes UTF-8 default "" ""  0.75 nil none    3355443 yes

Thanks for taking the time to look at this and for the quick reply. Although I'm very interested in computers, coding, and using the command line, I'm just getting started with this stuff and don't know much. Can you be a little more specific about "the appropriate LD_LIBRARY_PATH". I'am pretty sure I need to change a path in the command, I'm just not sure which one.

You would set it, probably like this:

$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/plex/

But I'm not sure exactly where all the .so files are located on the unRAID.

I got this response from Elan, the lead developer of Plex, but I don't know enough about the command line to figure out what exactly he's telling me to do.  I'm using Spidi's plugin and from reading in the forums I'm pretty sure that /usr/local/plex/ is correct for the LD_LIBRARY_PATH.  Can anyone tell me what these commands mean/do and exactly how to run them since I really have no idea.  I'm still learning so try to take is slow.
