April 22, 200818 yr This supermicro card looks like a good deal: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16815121009 Will it work in this MOBO http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16813128086 Is the PCI X (133 MHz) interface same as PCI e x16 that this motherboard has? How does this compare to Promise SATA 300 card? mani
April 22, 200818 yr There has been reports of this card working successfully. A few people on this board can probably confirm that it works. I have one for my A8N-SLI-Deluxe, but it is not working...yet (see my post http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=1851.0) PCI-X is NOT the same as PCIe, they are very different. See the below links. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI-X That said, PCI-X is designed to be backwards compatible so in theory the Supermicro should work in normal PCI slots (of which the mobo you reference has three), they just overhang the standard PCI slot. In practice, it may depend on the actual mainboard and bios in use. For example, as mentioned I am having trouble with my setup. I have actually just bought the GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R on others recommendation. I will pick it up in a few days so should be able to confirm the Supermicro's compatibility with it next week. Cheers!
April 26, 200818 yr I can now confirm that the SuperMicro card is working on th GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R! Swapped my A8N-SLI Deluxe over to the Gigabyte and it boots no probs. All drives are present and working in Unraid. After further testing on the A8N-SLI, I now believe it is faulty and the cause of my issues. Cheers!
April 26, 200818 yr Author Hi What slot did you put the supermicron card in ? Does it go in PCIe or regular PCI slot?/ Is data transfer faster than PCI based Promise SATA cards thanks mani
