April 29, 200818 yr I have just discovered unraid, and am planning to move my freenas drives onto an unraid install instead. But i have run into a problem. I am currently testing unraid with some random drives, before doing anything serious. Might just be me doing something wrong, but here goes. I have a 40gig parity drive and a 20 gig data drive, with some random files on it, and did a parity sync. I then powered down the system and replaced the 20 gig data drive, with a 40 gig drive. When i power on the system and start the array as stated in the documentation, the system emediatly starts to sync the new 40 gig drive to the parity drive, wiping all data on the parity drive i presume. After the sync the new 40 gig drive is just listed as unformatted, and all the data is gone. Am i doing something totally wrong here? I would really like to figure this out, before moving my big drives to a unraid box.
April 29, 200818 yr How are you "starting" the array after replacing the 20 gig drive with the 40? Are you using the "Restore" button, or the "Start" button? "Restore" will do as you describe. It does not "Restore" anything... it is poorly labeled. It saves a new configuration based on the currently assigned devices (as defined on the devices page) and throws away any old parity and re-computes it based on the currently assigned drives. The "Start" button will load the contents of the old 20 gig drive on the 40 gig drive, expand the file system to the full size of the 40 gig drive. (I think it is the button you wanted to use) See the discussion here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=1879.msg13303#msg13303 Joe L.
April 29, 200818 yr One more thing... You should use version 4.3-beta6 of unRAID. It is very stable and fixes a problem or two that existed in 4.2 (you posted in the 4.2 thread) Joe L.
April 29, 200818 yr Author Im pretty sure i did not press restore, as you have to cross that checkbox too. Could it be some error because im using safari to access the interface? Anyways ill try out the beta instead (am running 4.2), might solve it anyways. Thanks for the quick reply
