Using Workstation as a Home Server with Unraid

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been working on a workstation that I'd like to give the additional role of a home server - I've been familiar with Unraid for a while now and it seems like it's the most straightforward solution for my needs, I'm just wondering if it would make sense to virtualize this machine considering it's my personal rig. I'm planning to add a couple extra drives to utilize it as a NAS, and other than that I'll run Fedora and Windows it.

What I'm wondering is if the specs of this PC are enough for my needs, if I can use single GPU passthrough to switch between a Fedora and Windows 11 VM, and if I should be upgrading anytime soon:
AMD Ryzen 5900X
AMD Radeon 6900XT
Gigabyte Aorus X570 ELITE
32GB DDR4 Dual Channel Memory
