February 24, 20251 yr Howdy, Im new to Unraid but Ive been researching things for the past year while I aquire parts and knowledge. Im an avid Plex user as well as sometimes gamer mainly playing coop games with some buddies of mine online. I decided I needed a NAS build as my current setup is capped having over 50TB of stuff ive collected over the years so heres my plan. Case: Supermicro CSE-846BE1C-R920B (Already have) MOBO: ASRock Rack ROMED8-2T/BCM (Already have) CPU: AMD EPYC 7002 16-core (Already have) RAM: 256GB ECC RAM (Already have) Storage: 24x 10TB drives (Have some) Cache: 2x 1TB-NVME or 2x 2TB-SSD (Already have) HBA Card: LSI-9300-8i or I also have a LSI SAS3224 (My understanding is with the case having a backplane Ill only need one channel on the HBA so the LSI SAS3224 is really super overkill and the 9300-8i is fine either way I have both already) I also have all kinds of networking equipment basically anything I need available due to my job. Ive aquired most of the things listed minus about 12 of the drives which I plan on adding over time. I understand that Unraid can spin up game servers and that will be a feature I plan on using. I know some of this may be overkill but it was either free or hard deals to pass up. Anyway thanks for any insight as to my plan.
