May 25, 201214 yr I want to upgrade my HW (not drives but everything else) to a new box. I know how to put the box together and have everything on order, but want to know how to move my array. Here's my assumption on what I need to do: Move drives and flash drive to new system Install SATA cables in same order as old system Set new box to boot from flash Power on box My understanding is that everything should come up as is and work correctly as long as I have the drives in the correct order. Is that accurate? One issue I have is moving from a 6 SATA MB + expander card to a 5 SATA MB + same expander card. As long as I follow the same order with the 8 drives I have there should not be a problem but correct me if I'm wrong. I'm sure there's How To's on this site somwhere, but I couldn't find them easily. Thanks.

Actually, the order of the drives really won't make a difference -- and the new hardware may label them (sda, sdb, etc) differently anyway. What matters is that you take a PRINT SCREEN of the "old" array config.... and then when you boot up, make sure that the PARITY drive is assigned to the right drive..... that's the critical one. The rest of the data drives can go in any order. If you're reusing the same flash, you may get a bunch of slots where it says "Missing/Expected" and a drive that is listed in another slot. Isn't important that you physically move the cables/drives around -- just reassign the data drives to the slot and when you're done.... Unraid will figure it out... and should tell you "valid config" and let you start the array. If for ANY reason you can't get Unraid to tell you it's a valid config, DO NOT try to start the array. DO NOT do the "init config" procedure... Bad JuJu -- come back here and post about it. Again, key is to print-screen, make sure you assign parity properly, and then make sure you've assigned all the data drives and get "valid config" back.
