May 27, 201214 yr I've got a large unRAID install at home that's been running for years so of course I use it at work too We run production websites off a samba share from unRAID and don't have too many issues. However, we have some more "practical" issues that I need to address. Our clients can upload files and change existing files on the server using our app. I'd like to implement one of the following two solutions (or make me a better suggestion!): 1) automated file versioning (for a specific share/directory would be perfect). If a file changes, I'd like the old version copied to another directory/share and the version number appended. or 2) a nightly backup of a given share/directory. I'm guessing a shell script + cron job will get me there, but I'm not that skilled in shell scripting. Right now, when I try and copy all the files from the main directory to one of the windows servers (to do a backup or something) we get errors (not quite sure the source of the errors, but since this is a production server, obviously we're loath to experiment much in the debugging effort). We're currently running 4.5.3 but can upgrade to any version to get the functionality we need. Thanks! Edit: It looks like something like this might work for me: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=18238.0
May 27, 201214 yr We're currently running 4.5.3 but can upgrade to any version to get the functionality we need. Just an FYI, but VERY important. you might want to upgrade off of 4.5.3. Read following post for why, or at least be aware. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6206.0 It showed itself foe several users when they went to add an additional disk to their array. In addition to the new disk showing as un-formatted, existing disks that could not be mounted also showed as un-formatted. Pressing the format disk formatted ALL those... the new one, AND the existing disks with data. (ouch) In one case, it was every disk in the array. The solution if you see any un-expected un-formatted disks is to simple Stop the array, and the press the "Start" button to re-start it. the second time the disks will usually all mount just fine. If you are aware, no problem, even on 4.5.3, unless you forget some day to look for extra un-formatted drives, and wipe out all your data.. Far better is to upgrade. Joe L.
