November 30, 2025Nov 30 Hi!I have a Debian VM on my Unraid box, which is running fine so far. However, the VNC Console just stops working a few hours or days (it varies) after boot up of the VM. It just stops responding while the VM itself is running fine. Services are running, accessing the machine via SSH is possible, etc. Just VNC stops working, cursor is not blinking, and it does not accept any keyboard strokes:Does anyone know how to fix this? Thx a lot!Have a nice weekendThorsten Edited November 30, 2025Nov 30 by Tom7320
December 15, 2025Dec 15 Author Interesting side note: it only happens with VMs that have Docker installed. Still no solution....PS: Unfortunately, Spice console is not an alternative to VNC. With Spice many things are not working correctly. Wrong keyboard layout, no native Mac viewer, ....
December 20, 2025Dec 20 Hi,did you finally figure out what caused your issue? I'm having the same behaviour, after some time, I lose keyboard and mouse on the VM, although I can still connect to it. It seems to me Debian 13 could be part of the problem, I have several VMs running, and the only one hanging is Debian 13!Best
December 21, 2025Dec 21 Well, I have one of my VMs (Debian 10) running a couple of dockers, but it's usually up for a short time for testing purposes, I'll have it running for longer time to see if it happens. I have one VM running usually all day with no problems, no docker and Debian 10 too. The Debian 13 VM hanging has no docker neither, and nothing fancy really, just being used for web development. I have another Debian 13 VM, but also used sparsely, no docker neither and no issue ; but I'll test it for longer time and see if it has the same issue!
December 21, 2025Dec 21 Author Today I moved all my dockers to a Ubuntu server VM. I will watch and report…
December 27, 2025Dec 27 Author FYI: No problems with Ubuntu server 24.04.3 LTS so far....Happy holidays!
January 15Jan 15 Hi,switched to Ubuntu 24.04 as well, much better, although I had the feeling i was hanging much less after upgrading to latest Unraid release. However, I hava another issue with Ubuntu: a couple of times, I got black screen and only option was to force stop the VM... couldn't find a clue in logs about what happen !Anyway, will stay on Ubuntu and try to sort this out!Happy new Year!
April 9Apr 9 Hello. I have the same problem with ubuntu or debian..Services and SSH are working, but the VNC unraid console is frozen and I can't type anything in it.Anyone else experiencing this problem?unraid 7.2.4, ubuntu Server last version LTS or debian 13Thanks in advance.
June 4Jun 4 Same, happening for me and a friend, any VM using ubuntu 24 LTS onwards has this issue, even 26 funny that 22 or windows VMs doesn't have this issue, I also run Proxmox server (not on unraid) and novnc is on 1.7 vs Unraids 1.6, and that doesn't have the issue, at the moment, the only work around I have is to use spice :( no errors in the logs it just seems to hang onvnc also then the VM can't be shutdown and has to be forced stopped.I've updated from 7.2 to 7.3.0 and the issue is still present.
