Any support for MESA Venus Vulkan Serialization?

Featured Replies

Hello,

We appear to have VirGL support enabled, and forgive my ignorance here, but I understand that is separate from the Vulkan implementation of Virtio-GPU.

My goal is to pass a GPU to a VM (not with VFIO device passthrough) for playing games, but not actually give up the GPU from the host OS (Unraid). With Proton-GE using mostly Vulkan it seems possible to run games on this.

This means Containers and other VMs can take advantage of the GPU while it is idle, and when needed the GPU can be tasked with rendering basic games like Stellaris. No PCI-Reset system killing required!

It appears possible, https://docs.mesa3d.org/drivers/venus.html

However, I'm not clear on how we would go about enabling this for Unraid, has anyone discovered support for it or an example VM XML with this supported?

Super interesting technology, thanks in advance!

For those following behind, I never ended up discovering a means to enable this, it looks like the technology is still under development. Technically if you can reconfig unraid and import the right modules, you could maybe get it to work. You can probably forget GUI support for this within the next 2 years though.
