Advice on running Android emulators on an Unraid server for testing apps

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using Unraid for a while mainly as a home server for storage and backups, but recently I started experimenting with running more applications on it through Docker and virtual machines.

One idea I’m exploring is using my Unraid server to run an Android emulator inside a VM so I can test different apps without putting too much load on my main PC. I’m not sure if this is a good approach or if there’s a better way to do it.

The reason I’m looking into this is because I sometimes write simple guides and tutorials related to games and apps. While preparing some content for my small site (https://getclashofclans.com/) I was testing different ways to run mobile games on a PC environment, and it made me wonder if running an emulator through my Unraid server would be more efficient.

So I wanted to ask people here who have more experience with Unraid:

  • Has anyone tried running Android emulators inside an Unraid VM?

  • Is performance generally good for this kind of setup?

  • Would Docker containers or GPU passthrough make this easier?

I’m still learning how to use Unraid properly, so any suggestions or tips would really help.

Thanks in advance!
