May 22, 200818 yr Pretty funny - the open box drive costs more than the new one (and no free shipping either). Someone at Newegg is asleep at the wheel! http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010150014+50001077+103530090&name=SAMSUNG
May 22, 200818 yr Author I tried to tell 'em. Kinda funny ... Thank you for contacting Newegg. My name is Steven. How may I assist you today? Brian: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010150014+50001077+103530090&name=SAMSUNG Kinda strange - the open box item is $15 MORE than the brand new one. Steven: We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.All of our most current pricing and inventory is posted on our website in a "real-time" format. Nevertheless, it has always been our priority to offer the greatest value for your dollar, that is why we negotiate the lowest possible prices and offer them directly to our customers. Steven: All Newegg pricing is determined collectively by our Marketing and Purchasing Departments. Steven: Do you have any other questions, or is there anything else I can assist you with today? Brian: I am a good customer, and I think this is a mistake. An open box item is always cheaper than a new item. Was just trying to be a good sumaritan and let you guys know. Steven: Did you already purchase this item? Brian: No - but was wondering if you were going to lower the price on the open box item in response to the lowered price on the new item. Steven: Unfortunately, Newegg presently does not quote prices nor are prices negotiable. All of our most current pricing and inventory is posted on our website in a "real-time" format. Brian: I don't think you're reading my message. Have you ever gone to a store and seen two items - one used and one new - exactly the same product - and the used one costs more. Are you saying this was on purpose? Steven: I understand your message... Steven: All of our most current pricing and inventory is posted on our website in a "real-time" format. Newegg presently does not quote prices nor are prices negotiable. Steven: I know it is strange that the open boxed item is displayed at a higher price.... Steven: Please be mindful that due to the constant fluctuation of prices in this industry, the cost of our inventory is changing regularly. Items costs on our website reflect this, as they are adjusted daily. All of our most current pricing and inventory is posted on our website in a "real-time" format. Brian: Okay - kinda funny - I'm sure my friends on the forums will get a laugh as well - thanks for your help Steven: We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We are aware that there is always some room for improvement, which is why we appreciate your feedback. Rest assured that this will receive the attention it deserves and Newegg will continue striving to offer high quality products at low, affordable prices and only the finest in customer service.
May 22, 200818 yr He did say he understood your question right You should have mentioned the "free shipping" on the new disk... Perhaps that is why the open box disk is more expensive, they have to "charge" you an additional amount for shipping, and the computing resources to do the additional math to calculate the shipping charges are expensive. Most likely, when they purchased the "open box" disk originally, it cost them more, so they sell it at the higher price, rather than their current cost for the same drive. If you are interested, I've got one or two slightly older 20 Meg disk drives around here I can sell you for less than half of their original cost. Pretty certain that are not SATA-300, but the power connector might be adapted somehow to get them to spin up. It is definitely "open box" and any reasonable offer over $500 will get you free shipping too. Joe L. Anybody can pay 17.9 cents per Gig, it takes a special person to pay $25,000 per Gig. And we were all doing it back in the early 80s, when we were upgrading from the 10 Megs drives we originally installed.
