1528boyz
Hi, While i was searching for a good NAS to expand storage for my home media collection i stumbled upon unraid server concept and liked it on first thought . So after a week of reading/learning about it i decided to build a 6-8 HDD capacity unraid server . i am able to decide on some of components which i am going to use but couldn't finalize on the motherboard and wanted to make sure of the compatibility before i buy it. I am not very knowledgeable on the internal parts or building a own system but i spend time and learn them as i go and infact this is my first ever custom build. i request experts guidance on picking up a motherboard for the AMD-A6 processor which i already purchased . i know i bought some overkill parts for my server but i bought them anyway as i thought the price is cheap. Parts Purchased: RAM -- 4 GB (10$) --http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220480 Corsair CX500 500W PSU -- (29$) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027 CPU/Processor -- AMD -A6 -- (59$) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103951 i haven't bought the case but i decided on this , A newer version is released as well called "LIAN LI PC-Q18B" http://www.silentpcreview.com/Lian_Li_PC-Q18 But i haven't decided whether to go with old or new one ,will finalize based on the price as there is 50$ difference <<Any suggestions are welcome>> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112265 Experts , could you pls advice on selecting the motherboard for the AMD-A6 and once i decide on the motherboard i will buy the case and mobo and will start building my system . Based on guidlines given in unraid wiki page ,the following 10 came up ,Pls advice. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007625+600167491+600029917+600026696&QksAutoSuggestion=&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&Configurator=&IsNodeId=1&Subcategory=22&description=&hisInDesc=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&AdvancedSearch=1&srchInDesc= Quote Link to comment
mrow
I know this isn't exactly what you asked for but if you think you may be doing transcoding I'd consider returning the AMD chip and picking up a Core i3. It's very low power and doesn't even break a sweat transcoding uncompressed blu-rays. Quote Link to comment
