Permissions and disappearing files

Featured Replies

Hi All

I'm having issues with disappearing files, some don't show up in SMB with certain users, some don't show up in FTP with certain users (ie: big empty dirs whose files can only be seen by root).

I'm fairly confident something is wrong with permissions. Is there any way to make it so that when a user copies something to the array via FTP (or SMB), it doesn't end up disappearing from the directory listing right after upload?

What are the correct permissions? I'm using beta6.

Thanks

If one user can see something and another can't, it's definitely a permissions issue.

Are you sure your users are added to the shares you want them to see?

Did you re-boot your server after adding a user and setting up that users shares they can see?

Yes, files are created with permissions of 700 owned by root (even if root isn't writing them), which seems to be why no one else can see them.  I don't have user shares set up yet, I simply wanted people with a valid username and password to be able to write to the array.

Should I enable user shares?

I see the same problem, but not always. It seems to depend on how the files are created.

I have not enabled any user accounts yet, and my user shares are mounted as "guest." When I write files to the share the first time, they just dissapear. However rebooting my client (mac mini) seems to make the problem go away (it can see the files).

Very weird.
