Marvel
Hey, Sorry to be a noob but I have a couple of questions if anyone can help me. I've been stumbling my way through hundreds of posts trying to find the info I need to get things set up on my unraid server. I want to run sab/sick/couch on a spare ssd I have running outside the array because I only have the free version at this time, Things I've done so far: installed ssd deleted old partitions with cfdisk formatted drive with unmenu to reiserfs installed snap to mount drive as Apps Did a chown -R nobody:users of /mnt/disk/Apps - I just did that so it matched the array disks unraid set up Does that look right ? Also I'm confused about the install of the plugins, if I run the install from /boot/config/plugins will this install to my usb drive? or will it just put the boot up files on usb then I cant set paths in sab itself to /mnt/disk/Apps. because I keep reading its a no no to install on a usb/flash drive Thanks in advance for any replies coming my way Link to comment

The first part of your questions deal with SNAP to use disks outside the array. As I have not messed with that, I can not provide much help with it. As for the plugins... Yes, they go in /boot/config/plugins directory (on your flash drive). This will add a new icon to your settings page for the specific plugin. Once you click on the icon from the settings page, you will be given options for "Install directory", "Data directory", "port", "Run as user" & sometimes other options as well. You will want to set the install & data directories to somewhere other than your flash drive (cache disk if you have it, but can specify wherever you like). Link to comment
Marvel
hey, thanks for replying Yup I managed to find the icons on the settings page, it took me a while to get setup but I got there in the end I changed my data dir to /mnt/disk/apps Would it be a good idea to have my install dir on this drive ? I left it at default at the moment I leave the sab.plg and sick.plg in the /boot/config/plugins dir and they install each bootup is that the correct way ? Cheers M. Link to comment
lainie
at the moment I leave the sab.plg and sick.plg in the /boot/config/plugins dir and they install each bootup is that the correct way ? Yes, that is correct. I changed my data dir to /mnt/disk/apps Would it be a good idea to have my install dir on this drive ? I left it at default I have my install & data directories pointing to my cache drive. The cache drive is outside of the protected array so whenever the programs write to the drive, the parity is not involved. Once any files are downloaded my programs move them to the appropriate user share (which uses the cache drive) so once a day any new files are moved from cache to my protected array. Is your /mnt/disk/apps directory your external disk? As I said before, I have not ever installed or used SNAP, so I am not really able to provide much useful information on it. Link to comment
Marvel
Snap just auto mounts my internal hdd on each boot up, I'm pretty sure it's just like the cache disk but not sure about the mover feature. I think sickbeard should download and move the files ok, I'm gonna test that in the morning . And for movies I'll just manually move those to the correct dir. My current install dir is the default, /etc/local I think. I can't check right now im on the mobile downstairs. Link to comment
lainie
Out of curiousity, does SNAP mount your external drive to a specific location or is it a custom / user defined location? UnRAID has disk shares for /mnt/disk1 & /mnt/disk2 (etc...). I suspect you have /mnt/disk/apps as your SNAP drive. Does not really matter if external to computer or inside it (well, internal is usually faster, but either can work)... is /mnt/disk/apps part of the parity protected array? If /mnt/disk/apps is your SNAP mounted drive, it will have some similarities to a cache drive. SNAP drives & cache drives are both not parity protected, so writing to them will not spin up the parity drive. The mover is a script that runs once a day (default time is 3:40 am, but this can be changed) on unRAID when a cahce drive is used. The script moves files & directories into the appropriate locations onto the user shares. Your parity drive & protected data drives will be spun up each time a file is copied by SickBeard or you to the parity protected data drives. The cache drive only causes my parity drive & protected data drives to spin up once a day. Looks like your way will work well enough to accomplish what you want. Link to comment
