USB GUID changed

Featured Replies

I went to add 2 drives to my unRaid box and the USB GUID changed from

0781-8181-0000-000000130200

to

05E3-07A0-0000-000000000000

unRaid also now only shows the device as "Flash Product: USB Storage" insted of showing the make and model of the USB Drive (which is a SanDisk Mini Cruser 128mb - and this is not a U3 drive)....

Since I'm afraid you are the very first to report a problem like this, I doubt you will get many ideas.  Do try the basics:  reboot, connect to a different port.  If still zeroes, you need a new flash drive.

Of course, double check it's the same flash drive inserted.  I don't understand how the vendor ID (the 1st 4 digits I believe) could have changed, unless there was a severe power spike???

I finally got all my data moved onto the drives after registering.. stoped the array and shutdown via the web interface.. installed 2 500gb drives, and different GUID...  tried every USB port on my mobo...  Im assuming that my USB device died, or had a stroke?

kinda sucks as I paid for the reg key on monday, and finally got everything copied to the unraid box yeaturday....

Is there a way to make the basic ver use 3 data drives?? so that way I can at least access whats on my unraid box...

Get a different USB drive, load the software on it, boot it, get the GUID from it, send the info and a note explaining what has happened to Tom at Lime-Technology an e-mail.  He'll fix you up.

Sounds like your original USB drive is not doing well.

I once had a Honda that turned into a Toyota.  Strangest thing I ever saw.  ;)

You can create a mount point for the third data drive.  It will not be protected by parity, but you will be able to get to its contents.

First, determine the linux device of the device you will to access that is not part of the array.  Let's assume that the flash drive is /dev/sda, the first disk is /dev/sdb, the second /dev/sdc, and the third /dev/sdd.  (You will need to confirm this by looking at the designation on the "Devices" page)

Assuming that /dev/sdd is the one you wish to access, the partition with the data is /dev/sdd1  (notice the extra digit 1 at the end)

To do so, log in via telnet and type:

mkdir /mnt/disk1/disk3

mount -t reiserfs -o noatime,nodiratime /dev/sdd1 /mnt/disk1/disk3

Since /mnt/disk1 is already visible as a shared drive, mounting disk3 on /mnt/disk1/disk3 should let you get to anything on disk3 in the "folder" named disk3 on disk1.

It is not the same thing as the "User Shares" with merged contents, but you can get to your data.  Obviously, if the disk you need to mount is sda, then substitute sda1 in the mount command. If sdb, use sdb1 in the mount command...

There is nothing special about the name of the folder you use for the mount.  If you like, you can name it anything you like.  It just needs to be an empty folder.  Making it in a folder already shared means you don't have to also create a new samba share... (a little more difficult)

Just kidding around.  Follow Joe L.'s advice and contact Tom.  He is usually pretty understanding wtih USB failures.

Make sure your USB boots okay before sending in the key - as I said with your MB it was pretty finicky and wanted a smaller drive.

Good luck!

That works just as well, thanx.. expecially for a somewhat complete write-up on mounting in linux w unraid

My mobo reordered the drives so ill have to do some investigation to figure out which drive it is

Off to the store to purchase a couple new USB Drives
