December 17, 201213 yr Hello all - I have been watching the forums for some time as I consider my unRAID build. My case finally came in on Friday and my new box is ready to go. I put the hard parts together and I am ready to download and install unRAID. I highly recommend the Node 304 for anyone looking to contain the footprint of their build while not wanting to sacrifice in other areas. I have seen many of you use similar parts to my build so I think this should go very smoothly. Unfortanately, I did not have a heavy stock of unused parts sitting around, so all of this is new tech. I think I could have spent less, but I am appreciative of the flexibilty I have establshed here. I found the cable options limiting and I frankly just didnt think through the need for 6 HDD plugs. In my personal boxes I perfer to use fanless/modular options but I was not wanting to spend the extra $100, and now I remember why I have spent that much in the past. Without actually putting things together in this box though, I would not have been able to anticipate the challenges the CPU can create since the HDDs actually sit in very close proximity next to each other and on top of the PSU which is flipped upside down. Overall, the box slid together like a dream and some extra time needed to futz with cables. The plan is for this to act as NAS box and then deploy a stand alone media server that will handle the transcoding and interface. Thank you to the community for your posting and feedbacks for other members, I found them very helpful when making hardware decisions.
