December 28, 201213 yr Hi, I have build a unRAID server of older hardware. I'm going to build a new one mid 2013. Short question, i have a ide drive as cache drive. What is the maximum speed of this ide drive. I suspect very slow 10-15 MB because that are my copy speeds to the drive. Correct? If so it's better tp remove the drive.

Nobody can answer your question. If your older hardware has a 100MB/s LAN connection, 10-12MB/s is the fastest you'll ever see, regardless of the type or vintage of cache drive. Since you gave absolutely no specifics, nobody can answer better. Similar question ...(with as little information) I have a blue car... what kind of gas mileage will it get?
December 29, 201213 yr Short answer: Yes. While Joe is 100% correct, Personally, I would not trust my data to a single point of failure or corruption with the questionable stability of an antique drive. @Joe. 22 MPG, but if you paint racing stripes on it, it will go twice as fast and get 12MPG. paint it silver for 36mpg. unless the primer used is white.
December 29, 201213 yr Author True, true, I have gigabit switches and the cabeling is cat 6a. When i write directly to a share i have 30 to 35. To be clear this unRAID server is a test server. I have a back up of all important data.
December 29, 201213 yr Author Hi guys, I've found the problem. Because i have now a extra server in the basement (unRAID) i needed a switch. So i moved my switch to the basement and used a router /switch /wireless what was function as access point (bridged mode) in the house. I connected all cables but i also used the WAN port and those are not gigabit. Problem solved! I'll open a new topic i like to know which switches you advise. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=24979.0
