Slow read speed on AOC-SASLP-MV8

Featured Replies

Hello,

I need som help troubleshooting this issue. I get really poor speed on disks that is connected to the AOC-SASLP-MV8. If i move the disk to a MB slot the speed is mutch better.

Here are some figures

/dev/sdb: Timing buffered disk reads:    8 MB in  3.42 seconds =  2.34 MB/sec

/dev/sdc: Timing buffered disk reads:    8 MB in  3.20 seconds =  2.50 MB/sec

/dev/sdd: Timing buffered disk reads:    8 MB in  3.17 seconds =  2.52 MB/sec

/dev/sde: Timing buffered disk reads:  260 MB in  3.02 seconds =  86.19 MB/sec

/dev/sdf: Timing buffered disk reads:  276 MB in  3.00 seconds =  91.86 MB/sec

/dev/sdg: Timing buffered disk reads:  320 MB in  3.01 seconds = 106.27 MB/sec

/dev/sdh: Timing buffered disk reads:  258 MB in  3.01 seconds =  85.78 MB/sec

I just moved /dev/sdg from the pci-e controllercard AOC-SASLP-MV8 to the MB slot before the speed on that drive 2.44 MB/sec

Im on Unraid version 4.7

syslog.txt

The syslog you attached is really short, so cannot conclude too much, but the critical issue within it is that the single IRQ assigned to the SAS card was disabled!  Probably buggy driver.  So I don't think you did your drive speed testing during this particular session, as the loss of its interrupt essentially disables the card and all attached drives!  In addition, the SAS module in 4.7 looks quite old, and buggy, and includes the SCST, a module that Tom discontinued soon after that release.

All leading to a strong recommendation to upgrade to the latest of the V5 series, UnRAID v5.0-rc11.  MUCH better support for your card, and bugs fixed.  Follow the instructions in the UnRAID V5 Release Notes, and the new Migrating from unRAID 4.7 to unRAID 5.0 guide.

I was checking the realeaseplan for 5.0 and it might go final soon. I think i can live with the slow speed until v5 is final and then upgrade and test again.

thank you for the help.

And it's certainly your choice to make.  I would stress though that this is one time I would not wait for a better release, the current release is so much better for your hardware.  You cannot operate safely with a disabled interrupt, at some point you will have to deal with 3 red-balled drives.

One other note, it is also possible that there may be an updated BIOS for that card which could improve its stability.  I would research that as soon as possible.  I don't personally have any experience with that card.
