[RESOLVED] Strange Cache Disk Behavior

Featured Replies

DISCLAIMER: This may or may not be a 5.0-rc11 issue. But, I haven't ruled that out 100% yet.

Recently, my cache drive took a dump on me. I had to replace the  Seagate 1TB Barracuda with a WD Black 2TB WDC_WD2001FASS. Since then, it appears that files are no longer moving from: workstation -> cache -> array, as expected. The strange thing is that the speed of the transfers seems to indicate the cache drive is being used, but, the logs don't show the move from the cache to the array, like it used to. I just attempted a manual sync and this is the result:

Mar  6 09:15:50 UNRAID emhttp: shcmd (62): /usr/local/sbin/mover |& logger &

Mar  6 09:15:50 UNRAID logger: mover started

Mar  6 09:15:50 UNRAID logger: moving Share/

Mar  6 09:15:50 UNRAID logger: mover finished

Mar  6 09:15:54 UNRAID emhttp: shcmd (63): /usr/local/sbin/mover |& logger &

Mar  6 09:15:54 UNRAID logger: mover started

Mar  6 09:15:54 UNRAID logger: moving Share/

Mar  6 09:15:54 UNRAID logger: mover finished

The transfer this morning was @ 95.2 MB/s. However, a smaller file, that was moved last night, that was 500 MB smaller, with no major network traffic was @ 22.5 MB/s. (Yes, I do mean MB and not Mb. I do know the difference :) )

Am I missing something here? What else might I check?

Thanks For Your Help!

You could try disabling the use of the cache drive on your user shares, and then re-enabling it.

@sureguy I just went through and did as you recommend. I will have to test to see if that changed anything and get back.

I also noticed something else when I did this exercise: One of my shares is showing up with an Orange Ball next to it. I'm wondering if this means that the Share thinks there's still some files out there that it's expecting to be moved from the old Cache disk that died. How might I go about resolving that issue? Is it as simple as I think? (Simply re-copy all the most-recent files and see if it goes away?

Thanks Again!

Re-assigning the cache drives to the share by setting them to "Use cache disk: No" and then back to "Use cache disk: Yes" as resolved the issue with the Cache drive.

Thanks @sureguy

The issue with the Orange Ball on the share was resolved by re-copying everything from the day that the old cache disk failed, until today, back to the server, from my workstation.
