March 7, 201313 yr I pulled the network cable on the unRAID server from the switch to connect another device, and when I reconnected the network cable to the unRAID server I did not regain connectivity to the server. I've connected the server to a monitor and tried "ifconfig eth0 down/up" and neither command seemed to actually change the state of eth0. I tried another cable connected to the router and the switch and still no dice. The light doesn't light up on either device, or the server itself. Ideas?

A. you pulled too hard, and the cable is now bad B. You accidentally zapped the port with an ESD (Electro Static Discharge) spike, and killed it. C. You got the port locked up and only a power cycle will wake it up again. D. The cable you plugged in is not the same one you unplugged, but some other not connected to the router/switch. Since there is no actual connection to the switch, there are no status lights lit. (This is my best guess) Joe L.
March 7, 201313 yr Author I've tried 3 different known good cables and none work. Humidity is very low here (CO) so that's definitely a possibility. I'll try to borrow a known working ethernet card to test. Thanks Joe.
March 7, 201313 yr I had something similar happened to me. I ended up turning my router and switches off. Turn the router/modem on first and waited for 1 min. Then the switches on and waited a minute. Then I turned all of my devices on, and it started working again.
March 7, 201313 yr Author I installed the extra network card I had which lit up the switch. But, I couldn't get the system to use that instead of the built in networking. So, I plugged an ethernet cord into the integrated networking and voila! It was working again For some reason I still cannot manually turn it off via "ifconfig eth0 down". It still shows UP when I do an empty "ifconfig". This can be marked solved
