May 13, 201313 yr Good day, First and foremost thank you for your help..... Two Unraid machines ("Tower2" and "Tower1") running Unraid 5.0 rc 12a Two Windows 7 computers Seems I have some weird line drawing in mc. Using putty (with Window->Translation and have set Remote Character Set to "UTF-8") when I telnet into the "Tower2" and start Midnight Commander it displays "x"s for vertical lines and "q"s for horizontal lines, as per the attached screen shot. Troubleshooting performed so far: Telnet into "Tower1" using the exact same setting just changing the machine name and mc displays correctly. Used another computer to telnet into "Tower2" still displays the "q"s and "x"s in mc. It was working fine before the installation of some add ons but I am not sure which one caused the problem. Only difference between the two unraid machines are some add ons: Here are the add ons that are on Tower2 but not on Tower1 Tower2 has: ‘C’ compiler and development tools Screen Snap mail and ssmtp One idea is to install the above add ons (one at a time) on "Tower1" and see if that causes mc to display in correctly. Or uninstall them, one at a time from "Tower2". Thinking there is a setting I am missing? Any ideas? Many thanks in advance for your help Cheers, Wayne
May 14, 201313 yr Your suggested method of trying to resolve it would be best. No real reason why this should be happening.
May 14, 201313 yr Author Thanks for the quick reply. Ok so I have narrowed it down to the - "C" compiler & development tools. - Using Unmenu - Disabled "C" compiler & development tool" on re-boot on "Tower2" and rebooted - MC back to normal. - Installed (without "Enabling on Re-Install on Re-Boot") on "Tower1" - MC has the "q" and x"s.- - Rebooted "Tower1" - MC back to normal The only reason I had this installed was to enable sending emails for preclearing drives. However after removing "C" compiler & development tools and running: echo -e "Subject: a test\n\nThis is the email body." | ssmtp -d root I am still able to send emails. Does this mean when installing and Configuring Mail and SSMTP the "C" compiler & development tools is required as per: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Configuration_Tutorial#Install_and_Configure_Mail_and_SSMTP However once Mail and SSMTP is installed "C" compiler & development tools is no longer need and does not need to be enabled to Re-Install on Re-Boot? Many thanks, Wayne
May 14, 201313 yr However once Mail and SSMTP is installed "C" compiler & development tools is no longer need and does not need to be enabled to Re-Install on Re-Boot? Correct, it was only needed for the initial compile of ssmtp. You can disable the re-install on reboot and not install the "C" compiler again until you need it for compiling something else. Joe L.
