nic card?

Featured Replies

If i put a new nic card in should just work right?

it doesnt. :(

do i have to install the drivers? im assuming yes.

how would i go about doing that? there is no cd drive my server.

thanks

The drivers for common cards are already in the release, so if it doesn't work, then it's either a bad card, or there's a system mis-configuration (eg. haven't disabled the onboard NIC), or it is a non-standard card that is not yet supported.  If there is no driver included, we need to know exactly what the card is, and we have to figure out what the driver would be, and then request Tom to add it to a future release (won't happen very quickly).

The nic card i put in is this.

Roswell.  nothin fancy. 15 bucks.

unless you know otherwise its because i didnt disable the onboard lan.  I didnt realize i had to.  Ill try that and see how it goes.

also i was just wondering will i see a huge difference when i put this thing in(in your opinion)?  I have a 1000mbps switch and my HTPC has a 1000mbps port onboard and i have been using regular cat5 to connect the two as well as my unraid server.  I went out the other day and got some cat6 and when i put that on i could swear my HTPC is like lighting fast connecting to the inernet now even thought the router is still 100mbps (i think)(im pretty sure).

thanks again.

That card should work fine, appears to use a very common Realtek chipset, and will probably use the r8169 driver, already included and used by many.

The kernel will assign a network device to each working NIC interface it finds, and unRAID will use the first, as eth0.  So yes, you have to disable the onboard NIC, to hide it, and that should make the card the first network device.
