December 4, 200817 yr Hi, I'm trying to create a test usb stick using the basic server download and can't figure out how to run syslinux on OS X. The instructions appear to be for windows only. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Google didn't help on this one. Thanks
December 4, 200817 yr I know very little about Mac's, so I may not be very helpful here, but if you have an Intel-based Mac, I would think it is possible to create and boot from a DOS or Linux floppy or CD, and run an appropriate version of syslinux from that. You would need USB support, so Linux would be much easier. Have you ever tried to boot a Linux live CD from your Mac? The easiest course is to find a willing friend with a Windows machine. Or purchase the USB drive from Lime Tech. (PS: this is my 1000th unRAID post! whoop-de-doo!)
December 11, 200817 yr I haven't tried this approach, but there are instructions on the Syslinux Project web site (http://syslinux.zytor.com/wiki/index.php/The_Syslinux_Project) on how to do it using Mac OS X. I used VM Ware Fusion to create mine using Windows. I already have Windows VMs for my work, so that was the simplest approach for me. See if the Syslinux instructions work for you. If not then you're stuck with either running a Windows VM, creating it using a friend's PC or getting a flash drive from Lime Tech. Hope this helps.
