How to set scrollback buffer in Screen? (Installed via unmenu)

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

I'm using screen (installed via unmenu) a lot lately and I'm noticing that the scrollback buffer is set to a value that is too low for me to see the complete output of what I am doing while in screen.  Essentially some of the output gets cut off and only the most recent lines are visible.  (When using putty without screen the scrollback buffer is adequate because its obeying the putty window settings that I changed accordingly)

I would like to change this setting for screen but I'm having trouble figuring out how this could be done in unraid.  I would also like to have this setting "stick" for any screen sessions going forward.  From what I see the typical way to change this on a linux box would be to find the ~/.screenrc file and add the line "defscrollback 10000" (or something similar) to it.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find any such file so I'm guessing that either this file needs to be created or that a different file in unraid (unmenu) is being used for this purpose.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Just installed screen and found that the "screen -h" help window shows that:

"-h lines    Set the size of the scrollback history buffer."

I have no idea whether the setting is "sticky" or if you have to add a line to your go file for persistence across reboots.
