unRAID 4.4 User Shares Problem

Featured Replies

One of the first things that I noticed upgrading to unRAID 4.4 final was that user shares don't seem to be working correctly. When copying to a user share, unRAID was putting the file on Disk 1, when according the the high-water setting I had enabled for the share, it should have been putting the file on disk 3. When reverting back to v4.4beta2, shares work correctly.

So I did a little more experimentation today. I set the share as "most free" and rebooted. I double checked to make sure the share was still set as "most free" and then began copying a 20gig file over to the server from my PC.

Clearly, the file should go to disk3 since it has the most free space. But when I started copying the file over, it went to disk1 again:

So it appears that my shares are completely broken with 4.4 final. It doesn't seem to matter if it's highwater or most free. The file goes on disk1 regardless. Any ideas? Am I the only person experiencing this?  Tom stated that he was looking into this, but I'm not sure of the status.  I'm attaching a syslog in case that helps anybody.

I don't see anything abnormal in your syslog.  There are multiple reports of issues with User Shares in v4.4 final, so v4.4-beta2 may be a better choice for now, for those who depend on the User Shares feature.

A small item, your Seagate terabyte drive probably still has its jumper installed, see the Improving unRAID Performance page for info on removing the SATA150 jumper.

A suggestion, when capturing a screen shot, it is helpful to others with narrower browser windows to temporarily drag the right margin in before the screen shot, then restore it afterward.  Makes a smaller file too.  Doesn't have to be crammed too tight, just squeezed a bit, to remove some of the excess white space.
