Mounting USB drive internally on the MB

Featured Replies

Anyone know of an adaptor that will allow you to mount the USB drive directly on the motherboard, besides the USB header cables?

I have a usb expansion bracket similiar to http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat_id=116&sku=13403 (got mine from directron.com).

The cables plug into the header port on the motherboard, just like the case header cables.  I'm uisng mine to mount my unRaid flash internally.  I  took off the bracket and zip-tied the port/cable inside my case.

I would only go this route if you have no expansion ports left on the motherboard.  A PCI or PCI-e card with IDE or sata ports would be preferable (in almost all cases) than mounting via usb internally.

I saw that as well, I was just wondering if there was a little adapter avail instead of the cable.

Just curious, I'm probably missing something obvious, but why would that almost always be preferable?

In case you're just not fond of long cable lengths, there's this tiny 2-port adapter.

I think he's probably thinking of USB hard drive and not the USB flash drive...
